The Current Situation
1.3 billion people – nearly a quarter of humanity – live without access to electricity and, traditionally under-served by the commercial sector, are forced to pay over the odds to meet their basic energy needs. They rely on alternatives such as kerosene and disposable batteries. Kerosene gives very low light, produces noxious fumes which cause respiratory illnesses including tuberculosis, creates CO2 emissions, and causes house fires. Disposable batteries perform poorly and contaminate local water supply when disposed of. These options are extremely expensive – households can spend 25-30% of their income each year on energy and lighting.

ToughStuff provides very affordable solar-powered products for those living off-grid, replacing expensive and environmentally damaging alternatives. Our work:

Our operations fall into two main spheres – development and emergency relief. Our products are sold in developing countries, making a real difference to the long-term quality of life of our customers.
